While 2018 comes to a close, so does a chapter in the history of Metal Pay. As we usher in new beginnings with over a dozen cryptos available for purchase in Metal Pay (Yes, that's right — keep reading!), we'd first like to reflect on our journey to get here.
After all, it feels like just yesterday that Marshall had mapped out the images from the first version of Metal Pay on the wall of our old office.
The first version of Metal Pay
And how about the evolution of the home screen itself? The image on the right should look familiar, it's from the most recent Metal Pay version 1.4.0.
Evolution of the Metal Pay home screen
Of course, a home screen with only a Metal card and a Cash card doesn't work well when there are over a dozen cryptocurrencies to buy and sell inside of Metal Pay, so we had to mix things up a bit...
Enter the new Metal Pay home screen, featuring the Crypto Card, which shows the cumulative balance of all your crypto holdings on Metal Pay.
The new Metal Pay home screen
This new home screen is fully dynamic, which makes it easier for us to notify users about promotions and updates. It's also on a white background, which makes it easier for us to introduce Dark Mode — coming in 2019.
When you tap the Crypto card, you'll be taken to the Metal Marketplace, which is where you can check out the performance of your crypto holdings, as well as buy and sell any of our listed cryptos instantly with your Cash balance.
The Metal Marketplace
Of course, you're probably interested in knowing which cryptos you can buy/sell in Metal Pay. Well, here they are. Keep in mind that this is just an initial list. More will come. We're just getting started.

Multi-coin support and building on the utility of MTL
Multi-coin support for Metal Pay has laid the foundation for us to implement utilities for our native cryptocurrency Metal (MTL), which of course will remain the featured currency inside of the app. In an upcoming version of Metal Pay, users will be given a fee reduction on buying and selling other cryptos if they hold a certain amount of MTL. Additionally, the fees for buying MTL will be significantly lower than for other cryptocurrencies.
In the meantime, one of the primary utilities of MTL is that it is the only cryptocurrency that Metal Pay users can send to other users. We plan to turn on the ability to send and receive cryptocurrencies other than MTL after we have implemented the fee-reduction utilities associated with buying and holding MTL.
Well, what do you think? Are you excited for 2019? We sure are!
We update the app regularly to bring you the best possible experience using Metal Pay.
