Advocating for Crypto to the Government

It’s important to us that we help move cryptocurrency closer to mainstream adoption. However, mass adoption depends on more than just a beautifully designed app or an easy-to-use product. What may matter far more is improved regulations that deal with cryptocurrency.

You can’t expect investors, vendors, consumers, and everyone else to feel comfortable moving into cryptocurrency if the regulatory waters are murky. Different states have different regulations surrounding investments, financial companies, and everything else – which causes quite the headache for anyone trying to find their way in this growing industry.

We’ve been busy on our end, working behind the scenes with regulators and lawmakers and educating them on how best to improve legislation surrounding cryptocurrency. But we can’t do this alone. We need a grassroots movement supporting cryptocurrency to help steer the conversation in the right direction.

The goal is to create a positive, widespread movement advocating on behalf of cryptocurrency at all levels. Here’s what you can do to help:

Find Your Elected Officials

Whether you’re reaching out to a senator, congressional representative, or governor, the first step is finding out how to do it. Using the following links, simply put in your information to find out how to contact them.

Federal Officials

President of the United States
Send an online message.
Call to share your thoughts: 202-456-1111

U.S. Senate
Find your Senator's information.

House of Representatives
Find your Representative's information.

State Officials

Governor
Contact your Governor.

State Legislators
Find your state representatives.

Local Officials

Mayor
Contact your local mayor.

County Executive
Find your county executive.

City, County, and Town Officials
Find other local officials.

You’ll want to pay attention to their office phone numbers and their mailing addresses.

Call Your Elected Officials

No matter what state you live in, your representatives care about what their constituents have to say. Calling the office for your elected representative is a powerful way to send a clear message. The best strategy is to stay positive during your call – let them know how much you care about cryptocurrency, and how much you want to see improved regulations that make it easier to use cryptocurrency. Encouraging your representative to be open to new regulations can help push the conversation forward on behalf of the entire cryptocurrency community.

Write to Your Elected Officials

We get it: calling someone can be a little nerve-wracking, especially when they work for an elected official. That’s why we’ve made this helpful template for sending to elected officials. Simply download this page, fill in your information, add whatever extra details you think would be helpful, and send it away. Mailing physical letters expressing your support for cryptocurrency is a great way to ensure you’re saying what you want to say.

Some officials may have both a local office and a DC office – it’s up to you if you want to contact one or both of those offices.

Get Active on Social Media

There’s a lot of talk on social media about cryptocurrency: it’s price movements, updates from projects, and more. But an important conversation that has been lacking has been centered on improving the regulations that surround cryptocurrency. Interacting with elected officials on social media is a great way to let your voice be heard; anyone watching what happens can easily signal-boost your message by sharing it. Remember, it’s important to stay positive. You should avoid harassing, disparaging, or spamming someone to get your point across. As the old saying goes: "You’ll catch more flies with honey."

The success of cryptocurrency depends on each of us doing our part to help it grow. It’s not enough to plant (create projects) and water (work on) the seeds if the soil (regulatory environment) isn’t right. Let’s all do what we can to change the course of history and ensure our future is based on blockchain technology.
